Tenacity vs. Persistence

I always thought of myself as persistent. But I was reminded by a friend and client that I have tenacity. I thought, what is the difference between the two. Here’s what I’ve found out:

TE·NA·CIOUS

adjective \tə-ˈnā-shəs

a : not easily pulled apart : cohesive <a tenacious metal>
Other definitions show that it is someone who never yields to obstacles. Despite all the odds, you make it through somehow and better. When they talk about people being successful, I understand the hurdles they must jump up to and just prior to reaching success. The hurdles come faster and harder the closer you get. I’ve been going out of my way to overcome obstacles. I know most people would had given up by now. That is just the way things are normally. However, I have the burning desire to keep trying and succeed. What I believe as of now is that persistence is the first step and tenacity completes the process and makes you do even more. It is a fire in the belly one could say. How do you define tenacity?
